Another bad weekend for food blogging in the CW household… But I'll share what I have :)

Saturday morning we used the last of our Apple Fest apple bread to make French toast:

After letting this settle, Hubs and I went on a bike ride! Every April in Athens there a cycling festival called Twilight and I've decided that after the half marathon in March I'd really like to do what they call a Twiathalon: a 5k run, a 50k bike, and instead of the typical swim for the third leg (or first, technically) everyone goes over to the Jittery Joes Roastery and gets a tour. I'm trying to convince Hubs to work on the running part and do this with me, he'd be more interested in the coffee roasting bit. I know I can do it, just not sure about him. We're going to try to go on bike rides on Saturday mornings, probably ride up to a coffee shop with some books and read for a bit and then bike home. I'm terrified of biking on the roads around here, especially lacking bike lanes, but cycling is such great cross training for running, working the opposing muscles. I want to be good at it!

Anyhow, Saturday night the gang converged on Athens for the Georgia GATech game… I learned rather quickly that I don't have the alcohol tolerance I used to and passed out before the game even ended. Before that I did my damnedest to help finish off a bag of chips and a bowl of salsa and also had a portabello veggie burger for my entrée. No photos…

Sunday was spent insanely hungover and Hubs made me my favorite recovery meal of mac'n'cheese, again including a hot dog (recycled picture)

IMG_2288

More chips and salsa.

Hubs took my camera upstairs on Saturday and I was too lazy to go get it this morning for a picture of oatmeal that you see almost every day and then forgot that I'd need it for a picture of my lunch. So I had oatmeal for lunch with banana, peanut butter, granola, and raisins. And lunch was a spinach salad with a hard boiled egg and pear. Yum.

Since I skipped my run yesterday I did it today. Three miles with two walking breaks, once to join my friend who had a cramp, the other to blow my nose. At least I remembered to take tissues with me today! I came home and stretched out with 20 minutes of Yogamazing's yoga for runners podcast. By the time I got done my stomach was turning in on itself with hunger and the rice still had 22 minutes to cook, so I had a fruit leather which was perfectly satisfying.

IMG_2290

Dinner was brown rice with half a thawed container of gumbo. Yum yum yum. I'm trying ton convince the Hubs that the last container needs to wait awhile.

IMG_2291

And the last slice of red velvet cake. The gang did a good job of demolishing it Saturday night.

IMG_2292

I'm actually still a bit peckish. We don't have much but chips and salsa for snacking but I'm not hungry for that. I think I'll just finish the chapter I'm reading and head to bed. Goodnight y'all!

Enjoying the new layout? I decided something with only one sidebar would work better and I do like my lime in my gin and tonic… :)

I briefly ventured out this morning and was disappointed that Target wasn't having storewide sales. I bought a pair of running tights anyway, plus new running socks and a grey belt that I can finally wear with black shoes. I've been needing a non-brown belt for quite awhile now.

Here's a nice steamy picture for you:

IMG_2285

Breakfast consisted of two scrambled eggs and a spoonful or two of leftover stuffing, also with two pieces of wheat toast spread with lite butter and cinnamon

IMG_2286

It was big… which probably explains why I wasn't hungry for the rest of the day.

I finally pulled myself out of my book to put in my two miles in the pavements. It was not fun and I don't really want to repeat it any time soon. But oh lookie I've got three miles on the schedule for Sunday. Aren't I lucky. It seems like nine out of ten runs are bad runs for me and I hate it. No idea how to fix that, but it sure does make a good run feel all the better.

After a shower I snacked on some chips and salsa (used a bit more portion control this time!) and not too long after that Hubs made dinner. I had leftover roasted vegetables:

IMG_2287

And Macncheese with a hot dog. Not the healthiest but it was the only thing that sounded good. I have yet to soak my dried beans. The thought did occur to me to go set that up now, but we're grilling out with the boys besties (and the accompanying girls) tomorrow night so I won't need them yet.

IMG_2288

I'm still playing with photo size, I want them bigger than they have been but not so big as to be falling off the page (part of the motivation in only one sidebar). Bear with my while I sort it out! I predict half a slice of red velvet cake in my future… So much for avoiding dairy :)

Wordpress is still griping about how it needs to update. I've promised I'll do it soon but my book is much too interesting for me to want to pull myself away just yet. I'll do it for you though!

Even though I knew there would be a ton of food to consume mid-day I went ahead and made mself a bowl of oatmeal this morning involving 1/2 cup of oats, banana, brown sugar, cinnamon, granola and raisins. Probably more than I really needed today but it was scrumptious!

IMG_2283

I realized on the way to Hubs' aunts' house that I should have taken my camera but I at least took some cell phone pictures! I had sweet potato casserole, stuffing, green bean casserole, mac'n'cheese (I think), corn (x2), a deviled egg (x3), corn bread, and a tiny bit of turkey with homemade cranberry sauce. Hubs' cousin stayed up all night smoking the turkey in a smoker his shop class built. It was definitely the best turkey I've ever had.

1126091224-00

My inlaws provided this giant red velvet cake for dessert (thinking of us, perhaps, we had red velvet as our wedding cake). Hubs and I split a slice and brought a good chunk home (I've been too afraid to look and see just how much)

1126091325-00

After the traditional stuffing we petted the pets (skipped the giant pigs this year though, seriously probably taller than me) and headed home. After realizing how tight we are on money (expect to see lots of rice and beans for awhile) and realizing we'll be skipping the Christmas tree, I had dinner of a spinach salad with craisins and raspberry pomegranite dressing and some trailmix. Light and healthy after an indulgent day.

IMG_2284

Now forgive me but I just can't stay away from my book!

I don't have anything particularly exciting to post about the last few days so I'll post about our roommate Thanksgiving from last night. Hubs cooked a turkey breast as well as an apple strudel, Alex made stuffing (I even got my own dish sans sausage and cheese), and I made roasted winter vegetables in a red onion vinaigrette from The Flexitarian Table.

I also used this

IMG_2277

to make mulled wine

IMG_2278

My plate looked like this:

IMG_2279

(veggies and stuffing) and I went back for seconds of both.

The strudel was tasty

IMG_2280

And we watched Funny People while we ate. It was very long and drawn out, but James Taylor makes an appearance, and he's singing my song (Caroline in my Mind)! One of the songs my dad used to sing me to sleep with. I always forget what a filthy mouth JT has.

Breakfast this morning involved two scrambled eggs with nutritional yeast and ketchup and two slices of whole wheat toast with butter

IMG_2281

I slept till nearly 11:30 after our late night Monday so this was more like brunch. Around two I gorged myself on chips and salsa (Hubs poured too much and I have trouble leaving food).

My right achilles tendon has been feeling tight the past few days and I hurt my ankle slightly by hurrying back into the office on Tuesday so I decided I may as well move my runs from a Sun/Tue/Thu schedule to Mon/Wed/Fri this week. I ran today but it was sore the whole time and I came back home and iced it. Hopefully tomorrow will heal it.

Dinner was an odd conglomoration of food needing eating and leftovers…

IMG_2282

whole wheat egg noodles, two week old farmer's market edamame, peas (from my ankle), and leftover roasted vegetables. Very nutritious!

We then started watching The Haunted Airman, in which a pre-Twilight Rob Pattinson plays a wheelchair bound RAF agent during World War II… No plot. No resolution. Confusing and poor acting. I definitely don't recommend it.

I'm going to continue enjoying the quiet house now by reading some more of my book!

TBA

I new post is coming, I swear… I was up till 1:30 last night with a guest and didn't want to be rude (or miss any of the movie) to post. Tonight we're doing a roommate Thanksgiving so it may be another late one. I'll share soon!

Hiya, I've spent half the day in bed with allergies (the cat has been venturing downstairs a lot more lately). It's a relief to know it is allergies though, instead of a cold. I slept till noon, had some crackers for breakfast soon followed by some leftover gumbo for lunch. There was some tea and a cookie, a full disc of Gossip Girl, and I'm sure I dozed off here and there.

Hubs made beef and vegetable soup over whole wheat egg noodles with… Hawaiian rolls? I don't know, something I'd never heard of.

IMG_2272

Basically today has been extremely lazy and therefore rather unremarkable. Sorry to be boring! It was raining all day and it seemed a bit ridiculous to drive 7 miles round trip to the gym for a two mile run… so I'll make it up tomorrow. I feel a little bad skipping so early in the plan, bt oh well. I was worried I was getting sick. I did whittle my middle last night at nearly midnight! That's devotion, right?

Goodnight!

I was woken at 7:30 this morning (by my bladder, I opted to skip a nightcap in exchange for a glass of water last night… oh well). As of about 11:30 last night it was just Jason, Alex, the pets and I in the apartment last night so when I went downstairs to start my day and found someone on the couch I was seriously thrown for a loop, though I did notice that Zach (random roommate Z) and Nick hadn't shown up yet though its a home game weekend. Well I guess they got in late.  But highly confused at that hour, I just sort of grabbed my book, computer, an apple and my new jar of peanut butter  and retreated back to the bedroom.

So breakfast number one was apple with Smucker's honey natural peanut butter. I forgot how gritty Smucker's natural is, and how much I hate that. Oh well.

IMG_2267

Breakfast number two at about 11 was some grapes and two pieces of toast with butter, cinnamon, and a dash of brown sugar

IMG_2268

Lunch was the almond/wheat'n'bran trail mix and a pear before Hubs and I went to play disc golf.

After dropping the dog (singular :( ) back at the apartment we bought groceries for gumbo (and wine and beer) at Kroger and bought a second pound (free!) of shrimp from Earthfare. Looooove Earthfare. Wish I could afford to shop only there. I bought nutritional yeast! I've read about is so much on blogs like Gina's and my beloved Mama's Boy salad coats their tofu in it, that tastes so yummy. So I bought a container and look forward to using it a lot. Hubs was super impressed by the nutrition stats on the bottle (though we ultimately bought it from the bulk bins)

Since we had so much shrimp and two leftover sausages we made gumbo. We used the recipe in the 100 Best Recipes cookbook and it was great. I might have burned the roux the first time we tried, but we bought our first dutch oven at Kroger tonight and I don't think the bottom is nearly as thick as its supposed to be. I blame the technology! Second time around I cooked it on lower heat and might have had the husband's help.

IMG_2269

IMG_2270

This was quite tasty. We tossed in some thawed frozen okra at the end. Gotta have okra in gumbo! The shrimp was so flavorful and the al fresco brand all natural sweet apple sausage was amazing in it. A bright burst of sweetness. The gumbo was served over brown rice and we definitely have three more servings each of leftovers, split between the freezer and the fridge. Gotta love having tons of leftovers!

IMG_2271

"He drinks a whisky drink, he drinks a vodka drink, he drinks a cider drink, he drinks a lager drink…" Name that song… its a bit applicable at the moment so I'm going to sign off now :) Goodnight!

I owe my day to Meghann! She tweeted about a Glee Cast pandora station and I was rocking out to it all day at work, and a crappy day it would have been otherwise. It has songs from Glee, Broadway, Disney movies, and Jason Mraz! I don't know that I could ask for a better mix (unless looking for something to workout to).

Hubs requested WaHo for breakfast since he had a test today and needed something to motivate him to wake up. I can't find a picture of my usual, but it involved cheesy scrambled eggs, hashbrowns with onions, raisin toast and coffee.

Lunch was a salad with my farmer's market lettuce, craisins and some green onion

IMG_2265

The lettuce is so pretty!

IMG_2266

I have absolutely no appetite today, must be my body adjusting after so many calories at lunch yesterday. I had a bag of Mrs Vicky's chips after work and Hubs just made some popcorn for dinner. Plus a post road pumpkin beer!

We're about to start Slumdog Millionaire, laters!

Alright, well, in case you can't tell, the best thing about my day was definitely my run! I just wanted to keep going and going and going… But dinner was waiting on the stove so I forced myself to stop :) I did run nearly double what was actually called for on my training plan. The plan says 2 mi at 12:31 and I definitely did a good 3-3.5 mi at more like 10:30 miles. That's seriously what you need to reassure you that you haven't made a mistake spending $130 signing up for a half marathon which you have yet to make hotel reservations for… (*mental note, research tomorrow…)

Maybe it's all the food I ate today. There was breakfast… banana oats with a bit of brown sugar and some granola (I bought peanut butter today! just not in time for breakfast)

IMG_2262

And then there was the Library Staff Association's Thanksgiving Luncheon. A potluck for library staff (sneaky cell phone pic!)

1119091139-00

I had (counterclockwise from the left) a bite of Tofurky just to try, salad, green beans, marinated vegetables, rice and red bean paste, sweet potato casserole, macaroni, and onion quiche. The sweet potatos were amazing and I definitely went back for more quiche and vegetables. I also had a tiny piece of apple spice cake and a nutella sandwich to sample the desserts.

Hubby made me dinner! Whole wheat spaghetti, HeartSmart pasta sauce, sauteed red onion, and some al fresco all natural sweet apple chicken sausage. It was good! And a sweet potato on the side (though it wasn't cooked all the way through, he was a fatty!)

IMG_2264

IMG_2263

I feel like I did a good job of taking a small portion of spaghetti. It's so easy to take a lot.

I'm going to go enjoy this feeling of satisfaction and read for 15 minutes before the Vampire Diaries start. So worth it if just for Stefan's abs! Goodnight!

Ugh, I've had Britney Spears' "Three" stuck in my head all day. I'm tired of it now, ready to move on, thanks. But how have you been?

Breakfast was more banana oats! With cinnamon, pumpkin granola and half an apple. Half of that half I put in the pot about a minute before I finished cooking the oats so they could soften. It was good! Now I just need to go buy more peanut butter to perfect it… I'm quite frustrated to say that I forgot while on my brief pit stop at Kroger today.

IMG_2261

Today was my lunch buddy Sarah's monthly work seminar so I enjoyed the cool weather alone and had a late lunch when she got out. She's even pickier that I am and so has offered to bring me the boxed lunches she gets for free at the seminar. Works for me! I ate the turkey sandwich, pasta salad, and one cookie today and I'm saving the other cookie, the bag of chips, and mint for a rainy day.

1118091303-00

IMG_2064

1118091322-00

That's an old picture of the pasta salad and it reminds me that I didn't get any peas today! That was my favorite part! Oh well… it was free. And the cookie more than made up for it, oatmeal raisin with lots of cinnamon. It was something special.

When I got home from work (and Kroger) Dan greeted me with a "hey, I made cookies, have one" so I did. Well, half of one. Very tasty and very sugary. Two cookies in one day and possibly one more before bed! My bed time cookies are those fabulous TJ's mighty maple cookies that I looooove and are going stale. I'm using that as my excuse to indulge daily, no matter how many other cookies I've had that day :) (Trader Joes please come to Athens!!!)

Dinner was exactly the same as last night.

IMG_2259

I swear that sauce is honey mustard. Yum.

I went to Kroger for shampoo/conditioner for color treated hair and pears, because I saw someone mention pears in the blogosphere and decided I need some in my life. Well the pears were practically nonexistant (and those about were not worth it) so I ended up with a bag of red grapes instead. I'm not going to bother mentioning the number of handfuls of grapes that will be dug out of the fridge in the next few days, but imagine that there will be a lot.

Off to bury myself in a good book!
